Crisis Counsellor (female)
(relying on Provisions of Section 23 of the Ontario Human Rights Code)
Minwaashin Lodge - Aboriginal Women’s Support Centre is a non-profit charitable agency serving First Nations, Métis, and Inuit women, youth and children for over 15 years. We are a multi-service agency committed to the healing and wellness of our community. We provide culturally specific programming for children, youth, women, and families.
We are seeking a full time Crisis Counsellor to provide crisis intervention for our clients. If you enjoy a challenge, can speak with respect on behalf of your clients, and want to be involved, then this would be an ideal position for you.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide crisis intervention counselling to drop-in and scheduled clients.
Conduct intakes and assessments to determine the needs and circumstances of each individual woman once the crisis has been stabilized.
Work in close collaboration with Counselling Team.
Work in partnership with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal agencies in the Ottawa area.
Maintain accurate statistics and case notes.
Provide written and verbal reports as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Post secondary education in Social Work or other related field.
Minimum of two years counselling experience
Knowledge of programs and supports offered throughout the Ottawa region.
Excellent knowledge of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools.
Working knowledge of the issues faced by women.
Demonstrated understanding of a variety of counselling techniques.
EMPLOYER PREFERENCES:
First Nation, Inuit, Metis or non-status
EMPLOYER REQUIREMENTS:
Current Criminal Records Check
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills
Some evening and weekend work required
