Strategic Plan 2008 to 2010

In the Spring of 2006, OCTEVAW embarked upon an organization review and outreach initiative—the first since having put a formal structure and policies in place some 10 years earlier, in the wake of its first “operational review.” The recent review, undertaken by Meta4 Creative Communications and supported through a grant from the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services, was prompted by a need to assess whether the “model” was meeting the changing needs of the coalition.

Specifically, it was intended “to re-examine the organizational structure of the coalition with a view to enhancing the coalition’s effectiveness in advancing our mandate within the current political, social and economic context.” To create the goals and initiatives for the next three-years, coalition members came together in December 2007 in a half-day session designed to scope out their ideas. They were led through a traditional SWOT exercise and invited to brainstorm in small groups. Committee chairs were given the opportunity to bring forward the ideas from their committees.

Together we developed the following four strategies which have become the basis for all our three-year committee workplans:

  1. Enhance visibility in the community.
  2. Build capacity in the area of advocacy and pursue a proactive advocacy agenda.
  3. Build new partnerships and relationships through outreach to existing and potential members and stakeholders.
  4. Further develop internal structures and governance.
