WLW in the Woods

An outdoors social event for women-loving-women: for lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, queer two-spirit, trans and cis ladies.

Wanna see the leaves change colors with a bunch of gal pals? I do! I haven't seen any affordable and fun activities for women who love women in Ottawa-Gatineau yet, so let's give it a go!

A free shuttle runs throughout the fall weekends from York/Sussex in downtown Ottawa to the Champlain lookout!

Bring a picnic (maybe some snacks to share if you want), a blanket to sit on, and something warm to drink.

Children and co-parents are welcome!

This gathering of our community is going to take place on unceeded Algonquin territory. I admitedly don't know much about the NCC's history, but the fact that vast amounts of land are controlled by the Canadian government and often portrayed as a venue for (white) Canadians to discover and explore nature is part of a continued agenda of colonization. Recognizing this is only a first step in decolonizing our thoughts and how we interact with land and with Indigenous nations we share land with nowadays. Maybe we can chat more about this during the event!

The NCC website says the Champlain Lookout and the Mackenzie King Estate are universally accessible, but there are so washrooms at the lookout.
- There is also only one spot for a wheelchair/motorized vehicule on the shuttle bus per ride.
- Let me know if there are specific things you need me to look into.

Suggested meet-up and departure time: 11:00 am

The shuttle trip up to Champlain Lookout takes around 45 min to 1 hour, depending on how many people are on board (earlier is less busy).

There are shuttles back towards Hull and Ottawa every 20 minutes until 4:00 pm, head back whenever you're ready!
