In a recent National Post article, Sarah Boesveld writes about “Sexonomics” or the power of economics shaping our major relationship decisions. Drawing from authors who have directly written about this issue, Boesveld concludes that it is the economy and economic principles that drive human behaviour when it comes to love and sex. Unlike arranged marriages that put financial obligations at the forefront, she explains that social norms in North America dictate that it is love and intimacy that informs decisions of who we want to date and have sex with. Yet, according to the authors in Boesveld’s article there are a number of mitigating factors that shape these decisions.
