Speaking Our Truth: Reclaiming Ourselves

Winter, 2012, Monday evenings 6:30 to 9:00pm
Family Services à la famille Ottawa is offering a fourteen week group for women who have been sexually abused in childhood by a family member or other adult in a position of trust.
This group offers the opportunity to break the silence and isolation of abuse by sharing with other women what each woman feels needs to be heard in a safe, respectful and healing group context.
The group is structured and flexible so that there is collaboration on topics relevant to current group members.
It is required that women have already been in counselling around this issue and that they continue to see a counsellor for support throughout the group process. The group is open to nine women.

Her Story

What is the Herstory Project?

It is a project that seeks to document the evolution of OCTEVAW from being the Regional Coordinating Committee to End Violence Against Women (RCCEVAW) to the coalition that we know today. The founder of OCTEVAW, Joan Gullen, wrote “our herstory is a testament to our determination not to let the issue of violence against women and all its manifestations fall into the background”. This project will document the pivotal events that make up OCTEVAW’s herstory. We believe that the narratives by those who have been dedicated to ending Violence Against Women and children are fundamental to OCTEVAW’s herstory.
